Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken participated virtually in the EU Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) yesterday at the invitation of EU High Representative and Vice President of the European Commission Josep Borrell.  He welcomed the EU’s recent agreement of €50 billion in financial support for Ukraine and emphasized the importance of continued U.S.-EU cooperation and the U.S. commitment to hold Russia accountable.  He expressed a shared desire to work with the EU to surge humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza.  He reaffirmed the United States will work together with the EU through Operation Aspides and Operation Prosperity Guardian to protect global trade and commerce from attacks by Iran-backed Houthis.  He welcomed the support from the European Commission to provide humanitarian aid to Haiti and encouraged EU and member state support for the Haiti Multinational Security Support mission.  The FAC and the Secretary also discussed challenges posed by the People’s Republic of China.  They reviewed the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and preserving the status quo.
